The Gabafied Rear Brake Duct System for the Mazda RX‑7 FD3S is engineered to deliver true cooling to the rotor vane, where temperature reduction matters most. Built from high grade materials, it resists track heat, high velocity airflow, and repeated braking cycles without warping or fatigue.
Development began with a simple question: Where should the air actually go? With the knuckle removed, it became clear Mazda had already hinted at the answer, factory openings in both the brake shield and the knuckle! This system takes advantage of those OEM pathways and enhances them with a flared “funnel” integrated into the knuckle arm. The scoop mounted on the trailing arm captures fast, cool air from beneath the car and channels it directly through the knuckle, through the brake shield, and straight into the rotor vanes.
To verify performance, temperatures were measured immediately after repeated heavy braking, capturing peak heat before any cooldown. This approach shows how the system behaves under maximum load, the moment when brake cooling is most critical.
Testing showed a 25.1% drop in inner rotor temperature, confirming that the ducts actively extract heat from the rotor’s internal vanes rather than just cooling the surface. This is true core cooling that improves braking consistency, reduces fade, and extends the life of your pads, rotors, and fluid during aggressive driving.
What's included?
- 2 Scoops for the trailing arm
- 2 mounting pads for the trailing arm (This can accommodate both aftermarket(tubular) and OEM(square) trailing arms)
- 2 Funnels for the knuckle
- 8 heavy duty nylon "V" shaped zipties with 200lbs of tensile strength, 1.5x stronger than regular zip ties
What's needed?
- Flush cutters
- A jack and tools to remove the wheel
Install time <30 minutes
- Jack up the car, support with jack stands, remove wheels
- Mount the knuckle funnel first, use two zipties for the middle and top (prebend the zip ties to get it through)
- Loosely mount the trailing arm scoop, position it, then tug the zip tie tight so that there is no forward/backward movement before clipping all the zipties. (These zip ties are very strong! don't be afraid to tug on them)
- Repeat on the other side
